A enchanting summer wedding in the heart of Bristol at The Mount Without

I love a city wedding just as much as I enjoy a rural one, and this was no exception. I had previously met the gorgeous Ankie prior to the wedding day for her bridal hair and makeup trial at my studio in Bristol. It was such a pleasure to meet her and talk through her summer wedding plans.

We decided on a soft elegant updo for her bridal hairstyle, with some loose hair gently framing her face. This created a relaxed and pretty feel to the style, with the back of the hair twisted casually into a bun. It was a laid back but elegant hairstyle that worked perfectly on Ankie’s shoulder length blonde hair. 

Ankie wanted a natural makeup look for the wedding day but was mindful of needing the makeup to be long lasting for her summer wedding. Because of this I designed the makeup to stay on all day by using a few key products, which can really help. 

I started prepping Ankie’s skin by using a mattifying mineral primer by Hourglass Veil™ Mineral Primer – Hourglass Cosmetics UK. This is a fantastic product for bridal makeup as it smooths imperfections, fills pores, creates a matte base which the foundation grips to and keeps the makeup on all day. On top on this I used Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation | Natural Foundation | NARS. I love this foundation as it really does stay on well and is sweat and fade resistant. It gives a full coverage which is perfect for brides who want flawless skin and a good longwear base. 

When designing a longwear makeup, it can be important to stick with using powder products on the skin as these can absorb any oil or moisture on the skin. I used a powder bronzer Matte Radiance Baked Powder | Laura Mercier UK.

For Ankie’s eye makeup I used a Charlotte Tilbury cream eyeshadow, which I love. This is a great product and can be used as a base for powder eyeshadows or simply used on its own. Oyster Pearl - Eyes To Mesmerise - Oyster-gold Cream Eyeshadow | Charlotte Tilbury. We wanted to keep the makeup looking fresh and natural so opted for a lovely peachy nude lipstick Shop Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick | MAC Cosmetics. I love this one called Sellout by MAC. It’s a gorgeous colour for bridal makeup and suited Ankie’s fair complexion perfectly.

To ensure the makeup stayed on beautifully during the wedding day, I used a translucent powder to set it Translucent Pressed Setting Powder | Laura Mercier UK. Followed by my trusty setting spray by Urban Decay Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray 118ml - Boots. With this clever combination of products Ankie’s flawless makeup stayed put all day and into the evening.
