Having been a bridal hair stylist and makeup artist for many years I’ve had the pleasure of working at some incredible wedding venues in and around Somerset. It’s such a beautiful county, with many wonderful places to get married. With rolling hills, green pastures and quaint villages, it’s often the natural choice for a bride and groom, looking for the quintessential English wedding in the Southwest.

 

Choosing a wedding venue is a very important decision, and many couples spend time ahead of the special day, visiting locations to find out what feels right for them. In Somerset, there are so many gorgeous places to get married.

 

One of my favourite wedding venues is the enchanting Pennard House, a relaxed but elegant country home offering an incredible setting, with a church close by, a lake on the grounds and beautiful gardens which are perfect for outdoor ceremonies… it’s got everything you could wish for. Nestled in the Somerset countryside, this beautiful venue is like a home from home. Its informal yet elegant style would perfectly suit couples wanting a relaxed and beautiful setting for their wedding. The bridal suite is a wonderful space to have your hair and makeup done before the ceremony. This large room boasts a free standing bath, antique furniture and is flooded with natural light due the three floor to ceiling Georgian windows in this magnificent room. There are also beautiful hand painted frescoes on the walls of this magical and calming space. It’s a wonderful room to create bridal hairstyles and natural makeup looks. 

 

North Cadbury Court is a fabulous Grade 1 historic house in Somerset, with an incredible atmosphere and fabulous grand rooms. If you love traditional English historic houses and beautifully landscaped gardens, this would be your perfect Somerset venue. The bridal suite is an exquisite room to have your hair and makeup done, with stunning views of the lake and grounds of this amazing wedding venue. There is even a ballroom and a casino for your wedding guests to enjoy after the ceremony!

Clevedon Hall is another fantastic wedding venue in Somerset. If you haven’t been to Clevedon, I thoroughly recommend it! 

The 19th century Hall is set back from the sea front and is an impressive gothic style building, with beautiful staircases and a well stocked library too, which many couples use to host the reception. It’s a wedding venue I’ve been to many times, and my best friend chose this venue for her wedding a few years ago. It has a nostalgic and romantic feel and the bridal room is, again, a magical place to have your wedding hair and makeup done. There also some gorgeous cottages on the grounds for guests to stay in. 

 

Coombe Lodge is an exquisite wedding venue in Somerset and I’ve done many wonderful weddings there over the years, as it’s only about 15 minutes from my hair and makeup studio. The Arts and Crafts style Manor House is simply spectacular, with chandelier lit rooms, fireplaces and wood panelled walls, it is an incredible setting for a wedding. The bridal suite is a fabulous room to have your hair and makeup done in. There are large mirrors, lots of natural light and plenty of space for an entourage of bridesmaids. 

 

Folly Farm Centre is another wonderful venue in Somerset. Its sustainable credentials make it the perfect choice for many couples. Folly Farm Centre is owned by Avon Wildlife Trust and profits go towards restoring local habitats. The wedding venue itself is a beautiful stone barn with high ceilings and exposed brick work, perfect for creating a romantic and rustic country style wedding. The outdoor space has far reaching views across the Somerset countryside and is the perfect backdrop for a relaxed summer wedding. 

Orchardleigh Estate, located in the heart of Somerset, is a Romantic and Elegant setting for Luxury Weddings. I’ve had the pleasure of working at this incredible wedding venue on many occasions. The impressive buildings and grounds makes an amazing place to get married. Many of my brides choose to have their hair and makeup done in the fantastic bridal suite, which is a spacious and romantic room to get ready in.
