Laura came to my studio in Bristol to have a hair and makeup trial ahead of the big day. I was excited to meet her as she lives in Amsterdam but was getting married at The Square Club in Clifton.
Laura talked me through all her ideas for her summer wedding and showed me pictures of her dress, so I could really get a feel of the style and look she was going for.
We started with Laura’s naturally curly blonde hair. I put in an angled side parting and then used a large barrel tong to create soft waves, gently smoothing the hair into a glamorous style which I decorated with a bridal comb. The comb was something I had made with a gorgeous vintage marcasite brooch. Laura loved it at the trial, so she decided to buy it and wear it on her wedding day.
It’s always a thrill for me if someone falls in love with one of my handmade bridal hair pieces and I can use it in their wedding hair. This particular comb worked really well as the hairstyle we chose had a glamorous vintage vibe, reminiscent of the 1940’s. I swept the hair up to one side and the comb securely held it in place all day.
The makeup we used was very natural. Laura has lovely fair skin, so I used a Nars foundation in ‘Gobi’ after prepping the skin with a Laura Mercier primer. I defined Laura’s brows with a Mac eyebrow pencil called ‘Lingering’. This is a great soft taupe colour and is perfect for blonds or people with very fine eyebrows. It’s a gentle shade and is very subtle. I used a liquid bronzer on Laura’s cheeks as well as a touch of highlighter, a bit higher on the cheek bone for additional luminosity.
To enhance Laura’s gorgeous blue eyes, I used Bobbi Brown and Charlotte Tilbury eye shadows, in soft and smoky shades of brown. I also added a strong black eyeliner flick, to add to the glamorous look. To add some warmth I used a little blusher, Bobbi Brown ‘Peony’ on the apples of the cheek in a strong pink… only a touch was needed but the pop of colour was just perfect to create the right rosy glow. Laura chose a lovely Mac lipstick called ‘Nippon’, which is a gorgeous fresh peach colour. I thought it really suited her skin tone and was the perfect colour for a summer wedding.
I also had the pleasure of getting Laura’s 3 bridesmaids ready as well. The makeup brief was natural but polished, which perfectly suited these gorgeous ladies. They all had great hair and Laura chose for the hair to be styled in messy buns with some volume at the crown. This contrasted beautifully with her own hair and I think you’ll agree, they all looked fabulously glam for this cool summer city wedding in Bristol.
