The magical wedding of Elyse and Rob at Grittleton House in Wiltshire

It was such a pleasure to meet Elyse at her hair and makeup trial ahead of her marriage to Rob this June.

The couple had decided to marry at Grittleton House, which is a stunning venue in Wiltshire. The style of the wedding felt very magical, with the strong gothic architecture of the venue and stunning grounds lending to this incredible day.

Elyse had chosen a very beautiful wedding dress and an amazing gold double tiara to set off the look.

At the trial we explored two different hairstyles. The first was a take on the classic Veronica Lake hairstyle, with side parting and big soft waves. This look really suited Elyse, but somehow didn’t quite work with the very decorative tiara. I felt something simpler would set off the look better. With the help of some hair extensions and a lot of back combing, I created a more 1960’s bouffant, with height at the crown. This hair style was the one. Elyse was delighted!

At the hair and makeup trial we talked about the best way to ensure the makeup lasted all day during the wedding. As a makeup artist, I often get asked about the best techniques and products to help makeup stay put.

I normally would suggest using:

  • foundation primer

  • long wear foundation

  • translucent setting powder

  • eyeshadow primer

  • smudge proof eyeliner

  • fixer spray

  • long wear lipstick

These products will definitely help keep your makeup in place. I also would advise trying to keep cool if it’s hot on your wedding day, as any moisture on the skin could cause the makeup to slide.

It was a particularly hot day in June at Grittleton House, but Elyse was super happy that her makeup stayed put all day during her magical wedding.

It was such a pleasure to be part of their amazing wedding, and an honour to help create her bridal look.

I thought I’d share this lovely message from Elyse after her wedding day:

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you for Saturday! I felt so pretty, like an absolute princess, and I don't know what magic you used but I have never known make-up last so well. I sweated my way through a ceilidh and my make-up was still imaculate at the end and my face completely matt! What are your secrets?!

You were honestly so fantastic - everyone was thrilled with their looks and we had such a nice time getting ready with you. Thank you!

Elyse x"
