So here we are at the beginning of 2023 with the wedding season only a few weeks away, and lots of hair and makeup trials currently underway.
I’m really looking forward to the spring and summer months and all my lovely bride’s wedding days. It’s going to be a busy year!
As a makeup artist I am often asked during bridal trials and makeup lessons about the products I use. I am asked to give recommendations for the best and most effective makeup products on the market.
Having used many different brands over the years I have found one I am currently in love with. It’s called ‘Unlocked’ by Hourglass. For me personally, this mascara is a game changer for length and volume and what I love most about it is that it is so easy to remove! It’s a tubing mascara which basically means it coats your lashes in a buildable formulation with no flaking or smudging. To remove, you simply use warm water and the product just breaks down and comes away from your lashes with no scrubbing involved. You don’t need cotton wool or cleanser either, and in my opinion it is more gentle on the lashes. No more panda eyes!
One of the many questions I get asked before the wedding day is ‘How can I make sure my makeup will last all day?’
There are many new long wear foundations, eyeliners and lipsticks which have more staying power but the one product I have used which I have been really impressed with, is Urban Decay ‘Eyeshadow Primer Potion’. This is the perfect product for people who may have slightly more oily skin and find that eyeshadows and eyeliners tend to crease, smudge or simply disappear. The formula is creamy and you can apply with a flat brush to your eyelids, wait a moment for it to dry and then apply your makeup.
It acts as a barrier between the oil in your skin and the makeup and therefore stops it from breaking down.
This is a great product for brides and bridesmaids who need the makeup to stay put all day.
There are so many new makeup and hair care products on the market that many people find it overwhelming knowing what is right for them. As well as bridal hair and makeup I absolutely love doing makeup lessons for my clients. It’s such a rewarding experience seeing them grow in confidence in their own makeup application and being able to choose the most suitable products for them.
